Another vote for the riverbus (or Thames Clipper as it's now known).
I took my kids to the Sky Garden at 20 Fenchurch (aka the Walkie Talkie) a couple of weeks ago. An absolutely cattle class experience. You're basically treated like scum from the get-go. Queues to get in the building, queues to get searched in an overcrowded lobby, queues to get into a tiny lift, queues for an understaffed coffee bar, queues to get to an inadequate toilet and then queues to get the lift back down. Security staff that bark at anyone who doesn't stand in the quite the right spot. Grotty attraction that should be much much better.
Great views though.

Love my home manor now. I walk visitors around there Loads of great pubs off High Str Ken. Holland park is great especially the Japanese gardens with the carp.
Local is the Devonshire Arms but hidden in the back streets is this place.

Some really good suggestions here.
Re south London, if its a nice day I'd recommend one tree hill in Honour Oak Park. Fantastic views of the city, absolutely unmatched imo.
Bit out of the way though tbf, although whenever I'm back I'm surprised at how efficient that new overground train is

Yeah it's great round there.
Did you know? The original facade of st batlolemews was only discovered after the 19th century shop was hit by a bomb.
The Rising Sun just along the side of the church is run by a West Ham fan.on the odd occasion is have a lunchtime pint id go there and have a chat about what's going on at the club.
The church itself us steeped in history. Benjamin Franklin was a printer there before going over to America. It also is reputed to have a ghost. Built in the 1100s.

Just a rumour at this stage, but West Ham London (LONDON) FC are looking to cash in on the appeal of the Ground formerly known as the Olympic Stadium by offering walking tours in the summer. Indicative brochure blurb thus:-
Join us for a walk from the base of the Trevor Brooking stand to the side of the pitch on this guided walking tour.
Itinerary
09:00 We set out from the base of the famous Trevor Brooking stand. Close your eyes and you can almost hear a cheeky cockney war cry raining down from the seats - "COME ON YOU IRONS" "WE CAN DO IT WEST HAM" "FUCK OFF BRADY YOU FAT CUNT!"
10:30 We approach stewards stations where our crack stewards team vigilantly monitor the match. There will be an opportunity to don a hi-vis, some boots, and pretend to be asleep for a cheeky selfie keepsake.
12:00 As we approach the halfway point there is an opportunity for refreshment, London Stadium style. Popcorn & flat lager will be served on the iconic green grocers AstroTurf (£27 surcharge)
14:00 Get your boots on - it's challenge time! Anyone who can kick a ball from here onto the pitch wins a signed copy of 'I'm From Green Street' by Green Street's own David Gold, formerly of Green Street.
16:00 Mr Moon is on the pitch! Actually he isn't, but you will be so have a photo done at the end of your epic journey. 15 mins to take it all in, before an overnight bus takes you back to Stratford Intl for world class transport links home.
Either that or head north out of LivSt station for the 'mucky mile' - 8 striptease pubs before Hoxton.

The boat from Westminster to Greenwich as already suggested but also Westminster to Kew Gardens and a leisurely stroll around the gardens. Can't really be done in a day though.

One of the Oldest churches in London is 10th century St. Bartholomews in Smithfield, you can see the plans where the old Monastery was demomolished by King Henry VIII. Also nearby are the last surviving timber framed buildings from the great Fire. Along the wall of outside is a Plaque commemorating the actual spot where William Wallace was hung drawn and quartered. The Jocks still go and lay flowers and thistles. Good food in the pubs local to the meat market.
